With so many waterways on the Gold Coast we have a unique opportunity to be able to see much of the city from the water. By boat you are able to cruise up and down the entire coastline to take in the views of the Gold Coast strip. Then there’s the beautiful Broadwater and the multitudes of canals that branch off from the Nerang River and pass through so many of the Coast’s suburbs.
The Gold Coast Canals
Canals cut a water path through the Gold Coast everywhere, and most of them are accessible by boat. There are speed limits in the canals, but you’re not there to race. The idea is to relax and cruise and take in the sights. You can pretty much follow the canal system all the way south to Burleigh Waters and west to Robina. On the way, take in the sights of the beautiful homes of Paradise Waters, Chevron Island and Isle of Capri. Further north you can cruise the canals through the Hope Island and Helensvale area.
Creeks And Rivers
Most of the water system running through the Gold Coast is fed by the Nerang River. This river travels all the way west to the Hinterland. Two other major rivers on the Gold Coast strip are the Coomera River and Tweed River. There is also the popular creeks of Tallebudgera and Currumbin, both worth a leisurely cruise by boat and make perfect spots for fishing.
The Broadwater
The main hub of water activity and water sports on the Gold Coast. The Broadwater really does offer up something for everyone and is truly an adventure playground. If you cruise north you can not only take in the sights of nature, Ephraim Island and Sovereign Island are always worth a look; especially if you love window shopping for mega expensive waterfront homes. Stop off for some sightseeing or a bite to eat on South Stradbroke Island, or explore the multitude of small, serene and deserted islands dotted all about the Broadwater. This area of the Gold Coast really is a water wonderland and it’s protected from the ocean swells so the water is always relatively calm.
